Gang-related Crimes
Gang-related activities are serious felonies under both California and federal law. A normal felony for assault and battery, drug dealing, robbery, or a drive-by shooting can result in a life sentence when committed in connection with gangs. Gang-related charges may include:
- Assault and Battery
- Graffiti and Other Property Crimes
- Weapons Charges
- Robbery
- Drug Possession or Trafficking
- Criminal Threats
- Prostitution
- Identity Theft
- Money Laundering
- Gambling
- Sex Offenses
- Third Strike Charges
- Check Fraud
Most gang crimes in California are felonies, and may fall under the Three Strikes law. Charges often are based on false accusations, lying witnesses, inaccurate descriptions of your participation in a fight, or misunderstandings about your gang affiliations. Even if you are not a gang member, the district attorney may attempt to convince the court and jury you committed a crime to benefit the gang, or that you used gang colors or hand-signs that showed you were affiliated with the gang. We will try to put you in the best possible light, challenge the truthfulness of the witnesses against you, and seek to dismiss or substantially reduce the charges against you.
Alleged gang members also may be prosecuted for violating anti-gang injunctions. Los Angeles County gangs presently subject to anti-gang injunctions include the following:
